The Seattle Storytellers Guild’s Annual LiarsFest is next Friday, May 15, 2026, at 7 pm Pacific Daylight Time on Zoom. I’m delighted to be the featured teller this year! Here’s the info from SSG:
Our Featured Opening Teller is Laura Deal, followed by more “Truth Tellers” with a Swap of hilarious “leg pulling” Tales. It is hosted Marte Fallshore of the Little Liars Club. Register for this StoryFest program at https://bit.ly/SSGMay15LiarsFest26
Laura Deal is a storyteller, poet, and author. Her lies have deep roots in her lived experience but veer off into humor wherever possible. Nothing gives her more joy than making audiences laugh, while giving them a glimpse into her world.
Her storytelling career has brought her to audiences across North America, in person and online, from the Women’s Storytelling Festival and Fairy Tale Variations to the Good Liars Club series. Her repertoire also includes wisdom and folk tales, family stories, and her living history portrayal of Marion Woodman.
Laura is the 2024 recipient of the J.J. Reneaux Emerging Artist Award. You can find her stories on YouTube, Story Story Podcast, and the Apple Seed on BYU Radio. Her albums, The Diffendaffer Taffy Cafe and Other Stories and Simple, Clever, and Wise received honors from the World Storytelling Awards.
Donations of $10 or more to help support our featured storytellers and our StoryFest programs can be made in the Donation Jar at seattlestorytellers.org
We are also offering a Workshop with Laura Deal on Saturday morning May 16 2026 10-11:30 am Pacific time on Zoom: “How Did You Think of That? Inspiration, Ideas, and Crafting Tales”
In this workshop, we’ll play with prompts and brainstorms to plant the seeds for new stories, with an emphasis on lies. We’ll also explore what makes a lie entertaining, and how to build humor throughout the story. Laura brings her experience as a teller of whoppers, folklore, and personal stories, as well as more than 20 years as a writing teacher.

Price: $15 for Guild Members, $20 for other. Use the Donation Jar at seattlestorytellers.org for payment and please add a note with it that it is for the workshop fee.
